Oakura is a small coastal settlement on the east coast (Pacific Ocean) of the North Island. It is situated between the Bay of Islands and Whangarei - the main city of the Northland Region with a population of approx 50,000. The distance between Oakura and Whangarei is 50km with a further 160km to central Auckland. The Northland Region enjoys a subtropical climate. A small local population is augmented at weekends and during the summer by visitors, predominantly from
Whangarei and Auckland, many of whom have their holiday homes ("baches") located here. Oakura has a local store which sells a wide variety of food, drink, domestic items, newspapers and magazines, fishing gear etc. The store also has petrol pumps adjacent. In addition, there is a takeaway/ cafe, holiday park(camping, motor homes, caravans) village hall, fire station, boat and kayak hire, escorted fishing trips and casual rental property. Medical
services are available at Hikurangi (general practitioner)and Whangarei (full hospital services). Emergencies are catered for by Regional medical helicopter services flying from a beach helipad direct to Whangarei Hospital. This property is located at the southern end of Oakura Bay, is elevated and enjoys unobstructed views over the Bay, the Whangaruru Harbour and out to sea. It has a moderate gradient running generally south east to
north west. On part of the eastern boundary earthworks have been completed to allow a retaining wall to be constructed as part of a development proposed by the current owner which has not been pursued. The wall has been designed, constructed and approved in accordance with local authority requirements. Approximately half the property is covered in bush which features some splendid native trees. In addition to the views, another outstanding feature of the
property is its privacy. Both legs of the eastern boundary are shared with reserves which do not have any direct access. Thus privacy is assured whilst the reserves mean that no construction can take place and hence the views cannot be obstructed. On site facilities include: + electric power to the boundary with domestic supply available. + sewer connection at the boundary + 45,000 litre insitu water storage tank Access to the property is gained from Rapata Road which
terminates in a turning area at the entrance. Access to the site is good with a wide, formed drive, a gentle grade and plenty of parking for vehicles and/or boat on trailer. There are two options for gaining access to the beaches. The first leads directly down to the Oakura beach which is a long, sweeping sandy bay. It is flat, is ideal for families and is safe for swimming. At the far end of this beach road access is available and the sand is firm allowing vehicles to drive
onto it and launch/retrieve boats from trailers. Sailing and inshore fishing are popular pastimes within the bay and the Whangaruru Harbour. The second beach access is through one of the reserves and leads down to a series of small sand and shingle bays which offer swimming, snorkeling, scuba, fishing, walking etc. Between these small bays are rock outcrops which provide plenty of opportunity for fishing. This property is being offered for sale reluctantly. Please
