After visiting Australia several times in 1992/3 Hiroyasu Horibe finally emigrated from Tokyo, Japan in 1994 and established the Holiday Farm in Cowra. It is based on the Holiday Farms which are very popular in England and Europe. Blue Gum Farm is situated approximately 5km south of the
town of Cowra on the Boorowa Rd over looking the Lachlan River. After many years building the business to what it is today he wants to retire. We feel this well established business would be an ideal opportunity for a family wishing to start a new life in Australia. The Holiday Farm consists of 5 main elements
Fully Licensed Restaurant 564sq/metres Seating for a total of 60 guests, 40 inside and 20 on the veranda. Karaoke facilities are available for parties and functions. Gas
cooking in the well appointed kitchen, including an espresso coffee machine. The bar is stocked with local and imported wines and spirits. There is off street parking for 25 vehicles
Staff accommodation at the restaurant is made up of 4 bedrooms, spa-bath, 2 toilets, kitchen/dinning area, rumpus and stock room.
7 Bedroom Guest House.237sq/metres
This 2 storey house can accommodate up to 15 people. The upper level has 4 bedrooms, 3 with built in wardrobes, bathroom/toilet, laundry, bathrooms, and toilet, laundry, kitchen, dinning and lounge rooms. The lower level has 3 bedrooms shower/toilet, kitchen, and rumpus room.
4 Bedroom Family House.158sq/metres
This house can accommodate up to 8 people and comprises a spa-bath, toilet, laundry, kitchen, dinning/ living room.
A 10metre swimming pool and tennis court are available for guests use.
Orchard and Vegetable Garden. The farm produces large varieties of organically grown fruit and vegetables which include: yellow and white peaches, plums, nectarines, Nashi pears, oranges, lemons strawberries
and grapes. There is bore water irrigation system plus tank and town water.
Tour groups from local and overseas schools. These students can stay at Blue Gum Farm or with approved local families. At present we have 30 families registered with us as host families. Many of our students are from Japan and they enjoy staying with host families. They leave Australia having learnt a new and different way of life, some return to stay with the same host family.
Ideally situated on the banks of the Lachlan River, Cowra is a scenic 4 hour drive from Sydney and 2 hours from Canberra. Nestled in the Lachlan Valley, the landscape varies from river flats to slopes, rolling hills and some rugged wilderness areas. Cowra has a population of approx, 13,000. Rainfall is generally reliable through the year and Cowra receives on average 640mm a year. Temperatures vary making the area suitable for many different crops and
horticultural products. Cowra’s average minimum temp is 3.6C in July with a maximum of 30.8C in January. Apart from the traditional broad acre crops such as wheat and oats, rural landholder also plant oilseed crops particularly Canola. Cowra has also become recognised for the quality of both white and red wines. Tourism also plays a big part in the economy of Cowra with many interesting places to visit in the area such as the Japanese Garden, The historic POW camp, The Peace Bell
and Wyangla Waters just to mention a few. Cowra has a vibrant and expanding retail and commercial centre. It boasts the services and facilities you would expect to find in a larger town while still retaining that wonderful feeling of country hospitality. |
